Christian Experience - Believing into Christ

  1. An Introduction to Christian Experience
    1. This week and for the next few weeks we are going to repeat paragraph one of this introduction so that we all may memorize all of the common Christian experiences in a Christian's life. Even though all Christians have a unique experience of Christ, we all share the following experiences as we "follow the Lamb" and "run the race" of the Christian life: (1) repenting, (2) believing into Christ. (3) calling on/confessing the name of the Lord. (4) baptism. (5) feeding on the word. (6) prayer. (7) confession of sins. (8) enjoying grace, and the last-and a major experience of each Christian- is (9) walking in love. After covering "repenting" last week, we now move on to "believing into Christ."
    2. Believing into Christ is perhaps the most wonderful of the Christian experiences and at the same time so mysterious. It is a topic that Christians today even argue about in various ways. Some insist that everything is free choice and therefore if a person does not "choose" Christ, his or her salvation may not have been genuine. Others believe the opposite and with scriptural backing that God not only chooses us (Jn. 15:19) but that God the father must give us (John 15:16) this wonderful revelation. Such arguments miss the obvious important matter - believing into Christ.
    3. When we chose Christ by believing into Him one thing is for sure. It is a tremendous change in our personal universe that we call "experience." This change in belief changes us "forever" and, in addition, because we become as Peter did in Matthew chapter 16 "a stone" of a very large building, we change our dwelling place in the present time and our destination in ages to come. May the Lord be with us as we dig into the riches of all these matters.
  2. Verses and footnotes from the Recovery Version of the New Testament
    1. Mark 1:153 - And saying, The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent and believe in the gospel.
    2. John 1:121 - But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of God, to those who believe into His name
    3. John 3:162 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that every one who believes into Him would not perish, but would have eternal life.
    4. Colossians 2:61 - As therefore you have received the Christ, Jesus the Lord, walk in Him,
    5. Romans 10:92 and 10:101 - That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 For with the heart there is believing unto righteousness, and with the mouth there is confession unto salvation.
    6. Romans 1:53,4 - Through whom we have received grace and apostleship unto the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles on behalf of His name
    7. Galatians 3:262 - For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
  3. Questions
    1. Why is just knowing about Christ and/or knowing what is in the Bible enough to give us an experience of the reality of God in Christ? Hint: Why didn't the Jews receive Him?
    2. Describe your experience of believing in Christ.
