Christian Experience - Baptism (Part 2 0f 2)

  1. An Introduction to Christian Experience
    1. So far this semester we have covered three experiences of the Christian life: (1) repenting, (2) believing into Christ, and (3) calling on/confessing the name of the Lord. This week we will continue with the experience of baptism.
    2. As we said last week the purpose of our study is not to get into the proper physical way to put people into water. Our purpose is to dig into the Word to see what the Bible says concerning this matter and what value this matter is in the experience of a believer to speed us on to living a human life that is well pleasing to God. May the Lord bless the reading and study of His Word.
  2. Verses and footnotes from the Recovery Version of the New Testament
    1. Acts 8:361 -And as they were going along the road, they came upon some water, and the eunuch said, Look, water. What prevents me from being baptized?
    2. 1 Corinthians 10:21-3 - And all were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea
    3. Matthew 28:193-5 - Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
    4. Romans 6:3-5, Footnote 53 - 3 Or are you ignorant that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 We have been buried therefore with Him through baptism into His death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have grown together with Him in the likeness of His death, indeed we will also be in the likeness of His resurrection
    5. (In the following verses search for the best footnote and read it to all aloud)

    6. Colossians 2:11-12 - 11 In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ, 12 Buried together with Him in baptism, in which also you were raised together with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who raised Him from the dead.
    7. Galatians 3:27 - For as many as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
    8. Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, Repent and each one of you be baptized upon the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
    9. Acts 16:33 - And he took them with him in that very hour of the night and washed their wounds. And he was baptized immediately, he and all his household.
  3. Discussion - If there is time let each one pray a short prayer of thanks to God the Father and the Lord Jesus for the marvelous baptism that He has granted us in His going into death on the cross and rising again from the dead.
