Christian Experience - Feeding on the Word (Part 2 of 2)
- An Introduction to Christian Experience
- This week we cover the second part of feeding on the Word. Covered first are some verses in John chapter 6 that are not found in the other three gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In John the Lord is presented as food (chapter 6) and drink (chapter 7:37-39). The natural man cannot understand such a revelation. If we take these words in the physical realm they are quite repulsive. Even some of the Lord's disciples left Him after he spoke these Words because they could not see the true spiritual meaning of His teaching.
- The books of First and Second Timothy reveal that our Words are both nourishing and provide the supply to make others grow if they convey the divine life which makes us grow and in addition, the Word of God which we speak comes out of the very essence of God. Truly, all scripture is "God-breathed" (or as some versions of the Bible translate: "are given by inspiration of God"). The fact that we have a Bible that contains these treasures, and that we can be an extension of the breath of God by speaking God's Word, is quite awesome. This is on a higher level that just doing a work for God. Here, it is God working and operating in us and through us! (Philippians 2:13)
- Finally, there is a practical way for us to gain or appropriate all that is contained in God's Word which will defeat God's enemy and at the very same time supply other dear Christian brothers and sisters, and protect them from the attacks of Satan. (Ephesians 6:16)
