The Functions of the Word of God (the Bible)

  1. Introduction
    1. There are many different concepts concerning the Bible. worldly minds consider it an old book which is out of date, not up to current times, and think that it should be retired both in it's use and influence. Christian minds are also full of many concepts.
    2. Our purpose in this meeting today is to look at what the Bible itself reveals concerning the different functions of the Word of God.
  2. Testifying Concerning the Lord Jesus
    1. John 5:391 - You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that testify concerning Me.
    2. Luke 24:441 - And He said to them, These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and Psalms concerning Me must be fulfilled.
  3. Making Men Wise Unto Salvation
    1. 2 Timothy 3:151-5 - And that from a babe you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
  4. Causing Men to be Regenerated
    1. 1 Peter 1:232 - Having been regenerated not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, through the living and abiding word of God.
  5. Being the believers' Spiritual Milk
    1. 1 Peter 2:21-4 - As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation
  6. Being the Believers' Spiritual Bread
    1. Matthew 4:43 - But He answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out through the mouth of God."
  7. Making the Believers Complete
    1. 2 Timothy 3:161,3-5 - All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
    2. 2 Timothy 3:172,3 - That the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
