The Written Word

  1. Introduction
    1. Most people do not think that the Bible, with it's letters in black and white, have a relationship with us! It is, of course, because we do not consider in our natural mind that the Word of God is Christ. This fact that the Apostle John states in simplicity in the first chapter of his gospel is an awesome fact.
    2. There are two kinds of "words" in the Bible. There is the Greek word logos which means the constant and unchanging word that is written in black and white and which we call the Bible. We will study this matter this week. Then there is also the spoken word. In the Greek language it is the word rhema which means "spoken word." Last week we covered some of the verses in the New Testament that reveal this "spoken" word and you can look on our website to review it in case you missed it.
  2. Today's Main Verses and Footnotes Concerning the Written Word
    1. Its Essence
      1. 2 Timothy 3:162 - All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
      2. Titus 3:55 - Not out of works in righteousness which we did but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit
    2. Its Origin
      1. 2 Peter 1:202 - Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of one's own interpretation
      2. 2 Peter 1:211-2 - For no prophecy was ever borne by the will of man, but men spoke from God while being borne by the Holy Spirit.
      3. Hebrews 1:11 - God, having spoken of old in many portions and in many ways to the fathers in the prophets
      4. Hebrews 1:22 - Has at the last of these days spoken to us in the Son, whom He appointed Heir of all things, through whom also He made the universe
      5. 1 Thessalonians 2:132 - And because of this we also thank God unceasingly that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but even as it truly is, the word of God, which also operates in you who believe.
