The Written Word (2)
- Introduction
- Last week we saw the essence and the origin of the Word of God, that we call the Bible. It was quite awesome to see that the written word came from the breath of God as He "inspired" or "breathed out" through the writers who were just men. Such "breath," said the apostle Paul, was found to be very profitable to equip the man of God (including the females) in teaching, conviction, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Such a Word also "washed" us when we were saved and continues to renew us day by day. Daily we can strike our spirit on the Word in the same way that a match can be struck on a solid surface to ignite the phosphorus.
- The origin of the Word is always God. We mentioned John 1:1 and John 1:14 again. These verses show because of the Greek word for "Word" that the word in the beginning was with God, was God, and in verse 14, about 2000 years ago, He became flesh as the man Jesus. When Jesus spoke, He Himself said that His words were "Spirit" and "life." Hebrews 1:2 says that God has in these last days spoken to us "in the Son." This same verse covers both the old and the new creation. It says that Christ is the Heir of all things (because they were redeemed and purchased to be a part of the new creation) and that He was also the one who made the original universe belonging to the old creation. Wow, what a Christ! In the last verse we covered, I Thessalonians 2:13, Paul states clearly that his words are the Word of God, and not only this, but that this word was performing an operation in the believers thru their hearing and receiving it.
- This week we will cover one final point concerning the "written Word," the content.
