Receiving the Word

  1. Introduction
    1. In the last five weeks we have covered the Word of God in many of the details that are revealed in the Bible. We have seen that it is definitely written and is very solid in that aspect. We have also seen that there is a spoken aspect to the Word that imparts Jesus Christ as the faith in Jesus Christ into our being. Both the written and the spoken aspects reveal a wonderful Person who is both three and one at the same time. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are at the same time only one God. It is this wonderful God who makes the Word of God living.
    2. The first week this semester we covered the "Functions of the Word." We found out that the Word: (1) testifies concerning the Lord Jesus, (2) causes men to be regenerated, (3) functions as the believer's spiritual milk, (4) functions as the believers spiritual bread, and (5) has the capacity to make the believers complete. This week we complete the topic of the Word of God. The Bible also reveals how we as His believers can "receive" His Word. The three ways are: (1) by praying in spirit, (2) by teaching, admonishing, and singing and (3) with meekness.
    3. Next week we will look at the conclusion of the Bible in the book of Revelation.
  2. Today's Verses and Footnotes Concerning receiving the Word
    1. By Praying in the Spirit
Ephesians 6:17,181 - And receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which Spirit is the word of God, 18 By means of all prayer and petition, praying at every time in spirit and watching unto this in all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints
    2. By Teaching, Admonishing, and Singing
Colossians 3:165,7 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God.
    3. With Meekness
James 1:211 - Therefore putting away all filthiness and the abundance of malice, receive in meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
