Christ in His Process and Work - Consummating in the Spirit, then, The Second Coming

  1. Introduction
    1. The meaning of the word consummate in Webster's New World Dictionary is "complete" or "perfect". The apostle John in Chapter 7 of his gospel explains Jesus' invitation to the people at the feast to come and drink "of Him" by explaining to the reader "But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. The resurrection of Jesus as we have seen in the last two study sessions made the Holy Spirit breathable, and that the Lord as "the last Adam" became a life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45b). We know that Jesus said that He and the Father were one while He lived on the earth. The Lord being the Spirit in 2 Corinthians 3:17 brings us into a fellowship with the 3-1 (or Triune) God. The veil of the Old Testament has been "lifted" giving us an unveiled heart and a possibility of being transformed (or changed) into the same image, from one degree of Glory to another.
    2. The second topic this week is the Lord's second coming. This matter had been essentially lost among those that were Christians until about 200 years ago. It was lost in the pages of the bible until a number of Christian Bible teachers began to share the verses in the New Testament that made the matter "visible." It had been lost since the time of the early church fathers. Next, came the revelation of the matter of what has been called, "rapture." This matter has been a cause of strong opinions among Christians and has led to ferocious debates and out right divisions (or sects) in the practical expression of what people today call the Body of Christ. We cannot get into depth in this one hour session and pray that the Lord would give us some initial understanding in this matter and carry us on until we see how essential that the Lord's second coming is to God's eternal purpose and our responsibility and participation in it!
