Man's Three Parts - Containing the Key to Salvation
- Introduction
- Last week we saw the special way that man was created. All of us are vessels to not only contain the glory of God but also eventually express that glory for eternity. The real mystery is how God goes about accomplishing this eternal purpose that has been in His heart from the beginning. To see this we must look at the parts of man.
- Man is of Three Parts - The spirit and soul and body.
- In the original language (Greek) the parts of man mentioned in the following verses are separated by the conjunction "AND".
- 1 Thessalonians 5:234-6 And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Hebrews 4:122-3 For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
- The Body
- Romans 8:103-4 - But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness.
- Romans 8:232-3 - And not only so, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan in ourselves, eagerly awaiting sonship, the redemption of our body.
- The Soul
- Acts 14:221 - Establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith and saying that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.
- Romans 8:61-3 - For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace.
- The Spirit
- Zechariah 12:1 - The burden of the word of Jehovah concerning Israel. Thus declares Jehovah, who stretches forth the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him.
- John 3:62 - That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
- John 4:242-4 - God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness.
