The Riches of God's Salvation - The Blood of Christ, Part 2

  1. A Quick Review
    1. In previous weeks we have seen (1) God's selection and (2) predestination which was decided by God.
    2. In the last two weeks we saw first that redemption means to "pay a price" to "buy back" man from being in sin and unrighteousness. Christ's purchase on the cross was complete and purchased not only one man, but a people for a unique possession. Last week, we learned about propitiation. In this action by the high priest in the Old Testament, the blood of an animal was sprinkled upon the lid of the ark, which was called the place of propitiation. This was the place that man could meet with God and God with man. Christ Jesus, after resurrection ascended to the third heavens, appeared at the throne as a lamb "as having just been slain" (Revelation 5:6).
    3. We will see the tremendous impact the blood of Christ has had in the universe and personally on our own salvation. This week we continue with part 2 on the Blood of Christ.
  2. The Blood of Christ (Part 2)
    1. God's corporate people are exceedingly precious treasure to God. This is revealed by the redemption by which He made Himself available in the Holy Spirit and His own blood available as His work to obtain fallen man as His own precious possession.
      - Acts 20:28 Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among whom the Holy Spirit has placed you as overseers to shepherd the church of God, which He obtained through His own blood. Footnote 285
    2. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin. Footnotes 73, 74, and 75
    3. Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant; and to the blood of sprinkling, which speaks something better than that of Abel. Footnotes 242 and 243
    4. The blood of the Lamb answers all the accusations by the devil, who is God's enemy and our enemy once we become born again of our Father. We need to apply this blood whenever we sense the accusation of the devil.
      - Revelation. 12:11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they loved not their soul-life even unto death.
    5. God's heavenly calling revealed in the book of Hebrews reveals that God intends to make us a holy people. Christ is the sanctifier. Today Christ is the heavenly minister of a heavenly priesthood that He might be able to do the sanctifying work, and that we may enter within the veil by His blood to participate "in Him" as the heavenly sanctifier.
      - Hebrews 13:12 Therefore also Jesus, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Footnotes 121 and 122
    6. The Hebrew believers in this book are warned that to return to the animal sacrifices that were offered in the temple of their day was a serious mistake with definite consequences. This verse is significant because it states clearly that Christ is the only sacrifice that can effectively deal with our sin, BUT even more serious is the fact that if we consider the blood of Christ to be of little effect, we may insult the Spirit of grace, which supply to the believers the wonderful enjoyment of our salvation in Christ and the resulting fruits of the spirit mentioned in Galatians chapter 5:22-23. See footnote 221. - Hebrews 10:29 By how much do you think he will be thought worthy of worse punishment who has trampled underfoot the Son of God and has considered the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing and has insulted the Spirit of grace? Footnotes 292 and 294
    7. John 6:53,54 Jesus therefore said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life within yourselves. 54 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day. Footnotes 531,542
    8. The drinking of the wine in the Lord's table meeting is a common participation in the Lord's blood. By this action we have a joint participation in the redemption of the Lord and in His Body. This means we are one with Him and one with one another.
      - 1 Cor.10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of Christ? Footnote 161
