Eternal Life - The Indestructible and Incorruptible Life
- The year 2000 and beyond
- A very interesting thing happened in the year 2000. A piece of man's technology, a program for a computer, which keeps track of the date including the year, was expected to fail at the end of the year 1999. This caused another computer program to be written called a "patch" which fooled the original program so that it would not produce an "error" in the computer operation and thus shut down the entire operation and workload the computer was responsible for. New Year's 2000 came and went without a glitch as far as the world was concerned, but the fear generated by all the news reports caused many families and governments to stockpile foods, water, and medicines just in case something did go wrong.
- This story points out the fragility of human life. Today we will see two more aspects of the eternal life. It is both indestructible and incorruptible.
- Quick Review
- Thus far we have seen that this eternal life is exclusively God's. It is uncreated and ever-existing. This life is different from the physical life. It is different from the soulish life. God in the Bible signifies this life by a tree, designating this tree with the name "Life." Finally, last week we saw that this eternal life is a person, Christ Himself.
- Indestructible and Incorruptible
- Hebrews 7:16 - Who has been appointed not according to the law of a fleshy commandment but according to the power of an indestructible life. Footnote 161
- 2 Timothy 1:10 - But now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who nullified death and brought life and incorruption to light through the gospel Footnotes 103,4
- Questions for Discussion
- What are two verses that say that God's gift to us is eternal life?
- What does it mean in 2 Corinthians 5:4 that death can be swallowed?
- Considering God's first creation, what is another word for incorruptibility?
