The Riches of God's Salvation - Predestination

  1. A quick review
    1. We have seen that God created man as a vessel. Beginning with the spirit of man, God intends to fill His vessel until man becomes a full grown son of God in all three parts of his being. This process is God's complete salvation and according to the New Testament there are fourteen aspects revealed in God's operation as God completes this operation in time. They are as follows: Selection, Predestination, Redemption, Propitiation, the Blood of Christ, Forgiveness, Justification (both objective and subjective), Reconciliation, Regeneration, Sanctification, Renewing, Transformation, Conformation, and finally, Glorification or Transfiguration. This week we will cover the second aspect of God's complete salvation - predestination.
    2. NOTE: It is important to realize that there are different schools of thought both in theology (the study of God) and among different denominations which solidly attach themselves to one or more of these fourteen aspects, insisting that some of the other aspects are not only incorrect, but are also close to heresy. In our study we will simply present the verses that reveal that these aspects are indeed contained in God's word and we believe are worthy to be studied prayerfully. We also believe that each of us should ask God to reveal to us how each aspect may be associated with the other thirteen aspects. It is best to view them as one complete unit which describe God's complete salvation.
  2. Predestination - The awesomeness of a creator dealing with His creatures to determine their destiny.
    1. Rom. 8:29 Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brothers; Footnote 291 and 292.
    2. Eph. 1:5 Predestinating us unto sonship through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, Footnote 51 and 52.
    3. Titus 1:2 In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the times of the ages Footnote 21 and 23
  3. Questions
    1. What is the difference between God's choosing and God's predestination?
    2. n the Gospel of John in the New Testament it says that we were given to Jesus Christ. Who gave us to Him? Hint: John, chapter 17.
    3. Since we were chosen and predestinated by God the Father, does our choice really mean anything? What is our choice? See Romans 10:9-13.
