The Riches of God's Salvation - Propitiation

  1. A Quick Review
    1. In the last three weeks we have seen (1) God's selection and (2) predestination which was decided by God. Last week we saw the result of God sending his Son, our redemption.
    2. We all should admit that we can never fully comprehend the first two aspects of God's complete salvation, but praise Him that he revealed them to the His apostles in spirit and which has come to us in several places in the New Testament. Praise the Lord for such love toward us!
    3. Last week we saw that redemption means to "pay a price" to "buy back" man from being in sin and unrighteousness. Christ's purchase on the cross was complete and purchased not only one man, but a people for a unique possession. Finally, man can now enter once again into an intimate relationship with the God who created Adam simply by believing in His Son and his completed work on the cross.
  2. Propitiation
    1. 1 John 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for those of the whole world. 3 And in this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. Footnotes 21 and 22
    2. Romans 3:25 Whom God set forth as a propitiation place through faith in His blood, for the demonstrating of His righteousness, in that in His forbearance God passed over the sins that had previously occurred. Footnote 252
    3. Hebrews 2:17 Hence He should have been made like His brothers in all things that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest in the things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Footnote 174
  3. Questions for discussion only! (There are no right and wrong answers)
    1. Is Propitiation a place or an action? If it is an action how is it related to the place? If it is a place, how is it related to the action?
    2. Propitiation satisfies God's demand. What is God's demand regarding having a relationship with us?
    3. Is our attitude important in this matter? See Luke 18:10-14.
